WELCOME ADDRESS DELIVERED BY COMRADE GBENGA EKUNDAYO THE STATE CHAIRMAN TRADE UNION CONGRESS OF NIGERIA LAGOS STATE COUNCIL DURING A TWO DAYS WORKSHOP HELD AT PRESKEN HOTEL, IKEJA, LAGOS STATE ON WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 25, 2019.
I am delighted to welcome you all to this two-Day workshop organised by the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, Lagos State Council, the fourth in it’s series. We are profoundly grateful to God almighty, all affiliates here represented and our invited guests, particularly those who came from outside the state. We thank you for finding time out of your busy schedule to grace this occasion.
Preamble….
This year’s workshop has been put together in continuation of the state council’s commitment to continued capacity development and improvement of labour leaders in the state. It is our firm belief that societies can thrive when the citizenry is well educated and enlightened.
This year’s topics have been carefully put together by the cross section of our affiliates through the State Executive Committee (SEC). The topics are targeted at specific areas of concern to workers, hoping that our minds can be better expanded to think perhaps outside the box towards enduring solution or in the effective palliatives to ameliorate the pains of workers generally.
The Main theme “21st Century Labour leadership, Growth, Opportunities and Challenges” was chosen to draw our attention to the new trend of challenges and opportunities created therein in the 21st century, especially by technological advancement and its implementation.
It is our hope that at the end of this workshop, we would be thinking outside the box in order to grow the pie rather than struggling for the little albeit, crumbs available to us.
I therefore urge us all to open our minds and think along as the lectures are delivered, so we can develop a clear concise action plan for improvement of the labour movement and the members, which shall be expressed in our communique at the end of the workshop.
